Windows 10 Fixes For Meltdown and Spectre Halted for AMD Computers after causing boot failure

Following the swift action of Microsoft and Google to create patches and fix for the Meltdown and Spectre exploits that hit the computer community some days ago, the action targeted at fixing the problem has is freezing computers with AMD processors.

An unknown population of PC owners using AMD processors have been have problem with their devices after installing the fixes for Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities. One week after the release of the KB4056892 security update for Windows 10, a number of AMD users have reported that their system freezes after installing the fix.

This is an apparent issue as a lengthy thread of over 17 pages is dedicated to this issue on Microsoft’s official website. Computers with AMD processors can no longer booth because after installing the update. A solution proffered is to roll back the system using a restore point, however this only fixes the issue temporarily, because windows 10 immediately make attempt to reinstall the update.

In a report from Verge, Microsoft issued a statement relaying that;

“Microsoft has reports of customers with some AMD devices getting into an unbootable state after installing recent Windows operating system security updates. After investigating, Microsoft has determined that some AMD chipsets do not conform to the documentation previously provided to Microsoft to develop the Windows operating system mitigations to protect against the chipset vulnerabilities known as Spectre and Meltdown.”

Microsoft asserts that the problem lies in AMD’s documentation for it CPUs, adding that it is erroneous differing from the reality of their processors. The discrepancy in documentation and the reality of AMD’s processors is serious enough to cause the boot failure experienced by the machines. Upon investigation, Microsoft determined that some of AMD chipsets fail to conform to the documentations they provided to Microsoft for development of Windows fixes to prevent the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities.

Since discovering the issue and its origin, Microsoft has taken action to stop this mishap from happening again until they are able to devise a stable fix. AMD system face threats from a total of Nine Windows 10 security updates that have been release and have therefore been withheld form the affected machines till a solution is proffered, according to the Data Breach.

The fix should be ready in no time since the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities is a threat to great population.
